Discussion and

Reset Indonesia
which was held in Madiun Regency, East Java, was disbanded by authorities on Saturday night (20/12).The committee said the disbandment was carried out even though notification of the activity had been submitted to the police.
The event took place at Pundensari Market, Gunungsari Village, Madiun District.A number of participants who had just arrived were asked to go home, while dozens of other participants who had gathered were asked to disperse before the discussion began.
Chairman of the discussion committee, Gizzatara, said the disbandment occurred when preparations for the event were almost complete. He admitted that he was visited by sub-district government representatives along with police officers who asked for the activity to be cancelled.

“We have submitted a letter of notification of the activity to the police before the event was held. However, intervention still occurred,” said Gizzatara, Monday (22/12).
According to him, the authorities also issued a ban on the presence of one of the book’s authors, Dandhy Laksono, as a resource person. The committee considered this action excessive.
“We regret the attitude of the authorities which is considered excessive, this is purely a discussion and book review, without any practical or provocative political agenda,” he said.
“This is just a book review. The content offers ideas about a better Indonesia. It’s a shame that an event like this was disbanded,” added Gizzatara.
Books
Reset Indonesia
is a collective work by the New Indonesia Team written by four journalists, namely Farid Gaban, Dandhy Laksono, Yusuf Priambodo, and Benaya Harobu.
One of the book’s authors, Dandhy Laksono, said that the dissolution in Madiun was the first in a series of discussions that had been held in dozens of cities.
“This is the first time the Reset Indonesia discussion has been disbanded. On behalf of the authors, I would like to express my thanks to the committee for making maximum efforts,” said Dandhy.
He considered that the dissolution of the discussion and book review actually strengthened the reasons for writing the book
Reset Indonesia.
“The situation tonight is exactly what we discuss in the book. This is the reason why Indonesia needs to reset,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nglames Police Chief AKP Gunawan confirmed that there had been notification of activities from the committee. However, he claimed there was a time discrepancy in the notification document.
“There was a notification but it was in the form of a PDF, via a short message application, actually that afternoon. But the date also didn’t match,” said Gunawan.
Gunawan admitted that he was not at the location at the time of the incident because he was attending another activity. He said he had asked his staff to monitor activities so that they ran safely.
“I asked to come to the location to monitor the activity so that it can run safely and smoothly. Actually, we have coordinated with the committee for the activity to finish at 22.00,” he said.
He suspects that the termination of the event came from the sub-district or village government who considered that the activity had not received a permit.Even so, Gunawan emphasized that the police acted persuasively.
“We are clearly persuasive. There are residents gathering, however, it is our obligation to secure activities,” he said.
Gunawan emphasized that the police are still obliged to provide security for community activities, regardless of permits or simply notification of events.
“If there is an event inviting a crowd, we are obliged to secure the activity,” he said.
