The motor ship (KM) Maulana 30 carrying 33 crew members (ABK) caught fire in the southern waters of Belimbing, Tanggamus Regency, Province

, on Saturday (20/12).
The Lampung Class A Search and Rescue (SAR) Office reported that the incident took place at around 03.15 WIB.

Initial information about the incident was received by the Lampung SAR Office at 10.30 WIB from Saiful Umam, a member of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
“The initial evacuation was carried out by the fishing boat KM Damasha 05 at 06.30 WIB and continued until 11.00 WIB. Until the report was received, 25 crew members had been successfully evacuated in a safe condition, while 8 other people were still being searched for,” said Head of the Lampung SAR Office Deden Ridwansah in a statement.
The Lampung SAR Office immediately mobilized SAR elements and carried out cross-sector coordination.
Coordination was carried out with VTS Panjang to convey information to ships passing around the incident location to assist in search efforts.
Apart from that, coordination was also carried out with Lanal Lampung, Polairud Polri Headquarters, Polairud Polda Lampung, Kodan XXI Radin Inten, TWNC and fishermen groups in nearby areas.
At around 10.50 WIB, KN SAR 224 Basudewa belonging to the Lampung SAR Office departed for the incident location carrying 19 SAR personnel.
“During the journey, KN SAR Basudewa faced weather conditions with wave heights reaching 2-2.5 meters and wind speeds of 30-33 knots. However, the ship managed to arrive at the location at 16.10 WIB and immediately coordinated with KM Damasha 05,” said Deden.
All survivors were then transferred to KN SAR Basudewa which is planned to be handed over to KP Orca 05 belonging to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
The survivors will be taken to the Nizam Zachman Ocean Fishing Port, Muara Baru, Jakarta.
Then, to strengthen the search for the 8 victims who are still missing, KM Maulana VII has moved from the waters of the Sunda Strait to the location of the incident.
Deden said that SAR operations were still continuing by prioritizing safety and inter-agency coordination.
“As soon as we received the information, we immediately deployed KN SAR Basudewa and coordinated with all related elements. Our main focus at this time is to continue the search for the eight crew members who have not yet been found, while still prioritizing personnel safety amidst quite challenging weather conditions,” said Deden.
Until now, SAR operations are still ongoing and the Lampung SAR Office ensures that the latest developments will be conveyed periodically according to results in the field.
