has released its third film globally in mid-December 2025. James Cameron as director and writer gave the third film its title
Fire and Ash
, after the second The Way of Water.
Avatar: Fire and Ash returns featuring Sam Worthington to Zoe Saldaña and continues the story of Jake Sully’s family after experiencing a great loss.They also face a new threat on Pandora, namely the Ash Tribe, led by Varang and known to be very aggressive.

James Cameron revealed that Fire and Ash was the title chosen because it represented the situation experienced by Jake, Neytiri, and the Sully family in the third film.
“Fire represents hatred, violence, trauma and perhaps abuse of power. There are many things with themes like that,” explained James Cameron as reported

in 2024.
“Then what is the meaning of ash? In my mind, it represents the situation after all the energy has been given, what is the feeling of loss and living life with what you have done.”

James Cameron also mentioned that Neteyam’s death in Avatar: The Way of Water really affected Jake and Neytiri’s lives, including their other children.The situation sparked feelings of guilt and anger.
The personal problems experienced by the main character of Avatar are also confronted with the situation of Pandora and the dangerous new clan of Na’vi.
“This film reveals more depth to the characters and the deep emotional impact of things that threaten and test their bonds,” said James Cameron.
Not long after the Sully family officially settled with the Metkayina clan, an atmosphere of sadness was still felt due to Neteyam’s death.Each member of Sully’s family faces this feeling of grief differently.
However, Neytiri’s hatred for Spider could no longer be contained.So, Jake decided to move Spider.They will join the Tlalim clan, aka wind traders, who often trade to various villages using flying vehicles.
On the way, they were attacked by Mangkwan, led by a tsahik or shaman named Varang who was an expert in fire.Chaos ensues, the Sully family’s efforts against Mangkwan are no match.
Until then, Sully’s family was scattered.In the midst of the Sully family’s efforts to get back together and fight, Varang gets help from his arch enemy Jake who fulfills his obsession with fire and destruction.

James Cameron still acts as director, co-writer with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and in the producer’s chair with the late Jon Landau, who died in July 2024.
This film still stars the main cast of Avatar, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, Kate Winslet, and Cliff Curtis.Meanwhile, this film will introduce new characters played by Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is showing in cinemas starting December 17, 2025. This film is rated R13+.
