Three residents of Southeast Minahasa (Mitra) Regency, North Sulawesi, were found dead allegedly as a result of clashes that broke out in the unlicensed gold mining area (PETI).
The police are now investigating the incident.
Head of Mitra Police Samaptha, Iptu Ferry Salu said that patrol officers around Ratatotok District, Southeast Minahasa Regency, received reports from residents regarding the incident at around 15.00 WITA.

“We were on patrol while we received reports from residents regarding riots in the mining area. We immediately moved to the location because there were already reports of victims,” said Ferry, Saturday (20/12).
Ferry said the perpetrators had fled when the police arrived at the scene of the clash.
“The perpetrator was not there when we arrived,” he said.
Ferry admitted that he did not yet know the exact chronology and identity of the three residents who were found dead in the illegal mining area.
“The three victims have been found dead. Their identities are still being investigated,” he said.
The three bodies have been taken to hospital for further examination.The cause of the chaos in the illegal mining area is still being investigated by officers.
“Until now, we are still conducting in-depth investigations. The victim has been evacuated to the hospital,” he concluded.
Separately, the Head of Public Relations of the North Sulawesi Regional Police, Police Commissioner Alamsyah Hasibuan has not yet provided an official statement when further confirmed regarding the chronology and causes of the chaos in the mining area which resulted in three people being killed.
