Thue Gunners coach Mikel Arteta believes that the victory over Everton has given him the confidence to aim for the Premier League title this season.
“This gives me confidence and confidence. That level of performance and consistency of play. It’s very difficult to do that in this league and it means the team is consistently there,” said Arteta, quoted by Sky Sports.
“We enjoy the process of winning where we have to go to difficult places and face difficult moments. We have overcome many things and we have reached that point,” Arteta added.
The Spanish coach also talked about Gyokeres’ penalty goal which occurred thanks to the willingness of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.
Odegaard gave the right to be the penalty taker to Gyokeres, not to Saka, who had been Odegaard’s backup in executing penalty kicks.
“A good decision. I’m very happy for him. They took responsibility on the pitch between Martin, Bukayo and Gyokeres and decided who would take the penalty. And he managed to put the ball into the net.”
“I am happy when players take responsibility and make their own decisions. (It shows) the confidence of players who train every day and are extraordinary,” explained Arteta.
The Gunners currently lead the Premier League standings with 39 points from 17 appearances.Meanwhile, Man City is sticking closely to second place with 37 points.
