Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Haryo Limanseto, emphasized that negotiations between the two countries were still ongoing.
“Trade negotiations between Indonesia and the United States are still in progress, there are no specific problems in the negotiations being carried out, the dynamics in the negotiation process are normal,” said Haryo in a written statement, Wednesday (10/12).

Airlangga Hartarto’s subordinate also emphasized the hope of the Indonesian Government to quickly complete the negotiations.
“The Indonesian government hopes that the agreement can be completed soon and benefit both parties,” he said.
A US official previously said that Indonesia’s trade deal was in danger of failing after Indonesia withdrew several commitments made by both parties last July. However, he did not specify which specific commitments Indonesia was withdrawing from.
“They reneged on what we agreed in July,” the US official told Reuters, Tuesday (9/12).
According to him, Indonesian officials have informed US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer that Indonesia cannot agree to several binding commitments, and wants to reformulate negotiations with the US.
He believes that this step actually risks producing an agreement that is more detrimental to Washington, compared to the two most recent agreements that were reached with other Southeast Asian countries, namely with Malaysia and Cambodia.
US Finance Minister Scott Bessent last week stated that Indonesia was ‘rather stubborn’ on trade deals, although he did not specify how tough the lobbying with RI was.
Last July, Indonesia agreed to remove tariffs on more than 99 percent of imported goods from the US, as well as removing all non-tariff barriers faced by American companies.
On the other hand, the US is willing to reduce import tariffs on products from Indonesia from 32 percent to 19 percent.
The deal was first announced by US President Donald Trump on July 15.He called the deal a big win for US automakers, technology companies, workers and farmers.
