“We are grateful that athletes are able to excel in this situation. I am grateful for their struggle in Thailand. They are quality athletes,” said Rosi in Jakarta, Thursday (18/12).
Rosi was in the spotlight when he was deported by Thai authorities when he was discovered to be at the Lasantel Suvarnabhumi Hotel as a place to stay for athletes.Rosi was banned from accompanying athletes with suspended status from the Asian Kickboxing Confederation (WAKO).
Rosi explained at length the reasons for the suspended status.According to him, the sanctions from WAKO were baseless. However, he still went to Thailand at his own expense to accompany athletes from outside the arena.
“I went to Thailand to help meet the players’ needs. Athletes have specific needs which not all of the committee can fulfill. So I looked for them myself, like vitamins for athletes,” said Rosi.
There are eight Indonesian kickboxing athletes competing.Six of them entered the semifinals and won medals.
For Jefri, who won a gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games, the meaning of the highest podium is proof that his struggle was not in vain in the sport he loves.Even though he admitted that the deportation polemic occupied his thoughts, Jefri tried to stay focused.
“If you think about it, it will definitely come to mind. But I don’t want to lose focus. My target in Thailand was to get gold and I succeeded in getting it,” said Jefri.
Jefri stood proudly in the ring after defeating the host’s representative in the men’s K-1 60 kg final. He presented the gold medal to his father who had passed away, his mother who worked as an itinerant tailor, and his four younger siblings.
Asked about the next step in his career, Jefri had time to reflect for a moment. His determination to join the National Police is still his dream after repeatedly failing to get into the unit.
Jefri is entitled to a bonus of IDR 1 billion from the central government.Regarding what the money will be used for later, Jefri does not yet have more specific calculations. What will definitely be given to parents and younger siblings who are still at school.
“Part of it is for investment, but more for the family because there are lots of younger siblings at home. I don’t know the distribution amounts yet. I also want to join the police. Hopefully that can come true,” he said.
