U-17 Indonesian National Team
made history by winning their first win at the 2025 U-17 World Cup, when they beat Honduras, Monday (10/11).
The 2-1 victory over Honduras became a new milestone or achievement point for Indonesia. Not only successful on the U-17 stage, but also at all age levels.
When Indonesia played in the 1979 U-17 World Cup, there was no victory.Of the three matches, Bambang Nurdiansyah and his friends did not score a goal and conceded 16 times.

Next, in the 2023 U-17 World Cup, when they were hosts, they drew two and lost once. From these three matches, Bima Sakti’s team scored three goals and conceded five times.
In fact, if the Dutch East Indies were included as part of Indonesia’s history on the World Cup stage, the record would be the same.In the 1938 World Cup, the Dutch East Indies were defeated by Hungary 6-0.
Therefore, the victory of Putu Panji and his friends needs to be a reminder: this is how growth naturally occurs, passing from the lowest strata to the top of the pyramid.
And, the U-17 World Cup must be PSSI’s main target. After the 2025 U-17 World Cup, PSSI immediately made a preparation program for the AFF U-16 Cup, U-17 Asian Cup, and others.
Of course, if the U-17 World Cup is Indonesia’s goal tournament, PSSI must promote coaching. In this case, youth competitions are better organized.
PSSI Technical Director Alexander Zwiers and PSSI Head of Talent Scouting Simon Tahamata must create a firm and clear program.Indonesia needs technical guidance to become better.
Indonesia is not yet on par with Japan or South Korea, but the road to get there must be as wide as possible. When it comes to coaching, PSSI cannot do it half-heartedly.
Because reliable regeneration does not come from an instant program.Otherwise, the history created by Nova Arianto and the team at the 2025 U-17 World Cup will only be decoration on the wall.

Two consecutive editions appeared in
U-17 World Cup
, it is time for Indonesia to also appear in the U-20 Cup, FIFA’s highest coaching tournament.
The 2023 U-17 World Cup generation, such as Iqbal Gwijangge, Kafiatur Rizky, Amar Brkic, and Welber Jardim, failed to reach the 2025 U-20 World Cup, but don’t let that happen again for the 2027 edition.
Talents like Zahaby Gholy, Fadly Alberto, Mathew Baker, and Eizar Tanjung need to be nurtured continuously so that their talents are not lost in the lifestyle and society of the times.
It is also fitting that Nova Arianto, who has made history at the U-17 World Cup, be promoted to handle Indonesia U-19.Nova’s map of success with Indonesia U-17 can be brought to U-19.
So who will be the Indonesia U-17 coach? There are many candidates. One of the names currently in the PSSI environment is Zulkifli Syukur.
However, it is not who the coach will handle this young team, but how PSSI will shape the road map to the 2027 U-20 World Cup and beyond.
The U-20 category has tougher quality competition. Many of this age group have appeared in the world’s top competitions, and have even played for the national team at senior level.
Because of this, Indonesia’s road to the U-20 World Cup is much more difficult. If PSSI does not create a mature and measurable youth competition, the 2027 U-20 World Cup might just be a dream.
While at the U-17 level you might be able to hope for a football school (SBB), this is not the case at the U-20 level. At this level, it has entered the realm of club development through the academy.
Indonesian football talent has been proven to exist. The proof is qualifying for the U-17 World Cup.However, talent alone is not enough. It requires facilities to support a brilliant career.
Finally, it is worthy of recognition that Indonesian football has moved up a class after achieving its first victory at the 2025 U-17 World Cup, but that is only the beginning.PSSI’s performance will be even tougher.
