towards oil producing countries. The move comes as Washington expands its fleet presence in the Caribbean, including sending the world’s largest aircraft carrier in the name of combating drug trafficking.

Maduro dismissed the accusations and emphasized that the US military deployment was aimed at overthrowing his government and seizing Venezuela’s oil reserves.
“Under no circumstances will we allow the invasion of imperialist powers,” Colonel Gabriel Rendon said at an inauguration ceremony at Fuerte Tiuna, the largest military complex in Caracas.
According to official data, Venezuela has around 200 thousand soldiers and 200 thousand police personnel.
At a time when political tensions are increasing, sad news comes from the opposition world.A former governor, Alfredo Diaz, reportedly died in prison on Saturday. He was detained on charges of terrorism and incitement, according to rights groups.
Diaz is the sixth oppositionist to die in prison since November 2024. They were arrested following protests that broke out after elections last July, when Maduro claimed a third term in office amid allegations of fraud.
The wave of demonstrations killed 28 people and led to around 2,400 arrests, although nearly 2,000 of them have been released.
Alfredo Romero, director of the NGO Foro Penal which defends political prisoners, said Diaz “was held in isolation for a year and received only one visit from his daughter.”The group noted that at least 887 political prisoners were still behind bars.
Maria Corina Machado, the opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, condemned the deaths of political prisoners as taking place in the context of “post-election repression.”
“The circumstances of these deaths, including denial of medical care, inhumane conditions, isolation, torture, and cruel and degrading treatment, reveal a continuing pattern of state repression,” Machado said in a joint statement with Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, the opposition candidate he believes won the election.
