President of the Republic of Indonesia
Prabowo Subianto
stated that he would write off People’s Business Credit (KUR) debt for farmers whose land was affected by the hydrometeorological disaster on Sumatra Island.
Prabowo said this during a working visit to inspect the condition of damaged infrastructure in Bireuen Regency, Aceh following the flood and landslide disasters in Sumatra.
He admitted that from his observations, many rice fields and agricultural land were damaged and dams were broken due to hydrometeorological disasters, namely floods and landslides at the end of last November. For this reason, he hopes that farmers whose land is affected by the disaster will not have to worry about KUR debts.

“Then KUR debts, because this is a natural situation, we will write off. So farmers don’t worry about not being able to pay back the debt, because this is not negligence, but a forced situation,” said Prabowo, Sunday (7/12).
Then for damaged agricultural land and rice fields, Prabowo said, the government will rehabilitate them and will help to repair them after the emergency situation improves.
“We will rehabilitate the damaged rice fields and have reported them to me. Farmers don’t need to worry. If their fields are damaged, we will help repair them,” he said.
Prabowo also ensured that food supplies would continue to be brought to Aceh with the help of all agencies.
From data from the Aceh disaster emergency response post on Sunday (7/12), residents’ rice fields affected by floods and landslides covered an area of 65,105 hectares, while gardens covered an area of 14,741 hectares.
