Two Indonesian citizens killed in devastating fire at 7 Hong Kong apartments

A total of two Indonesian citizens (WNI) died in a devastating fire that hit seven apartments in
Hong Kong
.
A total of 44 people died and hundreds of others were missing as a result of a massive fire that destroyed seven apartments at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, Wednesday (26/11).

The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Hong Kong has coordinated intensively with the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) to monitor field conditions and monitor Indonesian citizens.
“To date, 2 (two) Indonesian citizens have been declared dead and 2 (two) other people have been injured,” said the official statement from the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong received by hitclubapk3Indonesia.com, Thursday (27/11).
The statement then continued, “All the victims were Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in the domestic sector.”
The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong has contacted the families of the affected Indonesian citizens to provide clear information as well as inform them of the next steps for handling them.
Apart from that, the Indonesian Consulate General also coordinates with local authorities and relevant local employment agencies to arrange the repatriation of bodies and related rights.
In this release, the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong stated that it continues to communicate with local authorities and various parties to monitor developments in the situation and provide further assistance to affected Indonesian citizens.
“Including providing temporary shelter and logistics at the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong,” they continued.
A fire broke out at an apartment building complex in Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, northern Hong Kong on Wednesday afternoon.As a result of the fire, 44 died, 45 people were in critical condition, 279 were still missing, and 900 others were displaced.
The incident was one of the deadliest fires in decades in Hong Kong, a region with some of the world’s tallest and most densely populated apartment blocks.
When the fire occurred, a number of buildings were being renovated and there was a lot of bamboo scaffolding as part of the construction.
Until now the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
According to the initial investigation, officers found styrofoam inside the building.
Authorities said the styrofoam caused the fire to spread more quickly within the block and burned apartments through the corridors.
