President
Donald Trump
want citizens
United States
have more children so that they will implement policies that encourage birth rates to increase in Uncle Sam’s country.
In mid-October, the White House released a Presidential Regulation that focuses on expanding access to treatment and care
in vitro fertilization
(fertility treatment) at a more affordable price.
Trump implemented this policy at a time when the national birth rate had been declining since 2007. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the number of births fell by an average of 2% every year between 2015 and 2020 although the rate has fluctuated since.

, Trump flaunted his policies and even branded himself as the “fertilization president” because he supports pronatalist policies or policies that encourage child birth rates to increase through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act which was passed last July.
In this law, the government will reduce and simplify the requirements for Medicaid recipients, especially regarding childbirth.Currently, Medicaid covers 4 or more out of 10 births in the US.
The slogan “more babies” is now echoed at the highest levels of the federal government.
“I can’t remember any other administration that has been so attached to the pronatalist movement,” said Brian Dixon, senior vice president of government and political affairs at Population Connection.
Just days after being inaugurated in early January, Vice President JD Vance also stated “I want more babies in the United States.”He also criticized the choices of women and men who decide not to have children or
child-free.
Through the law, the Trump administration also provided discounts on some drugs used in IVF procedures through TrumpRx.gov, a government website aimed at connecting consumers with lower drug prices.
In addition, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act also creates a “Trump Account”, where the government will open an automatic account for US children born after December 31, 2024 to before January 1, 2029. The account will automatically be filled with US$1,000 (Rp. 16.6 million) as a child subsidy.
Parents can also deposit up to US$5,000 (Rp. 83.3 million) per year into the account.Apart from parents, employers can also contribute up to US$2,500 annually to the account.
These accounts are designed as long-term savings, and funds cannot be withdrawn before the child is 18 years old.
However, on the other hand, the law also cuts federal funding for a national program that provides monthly food benefits, where almost 40% of recipients in the 2023 fiscal year will be children.
The law also cuts the budget and freezes hiring in Head Start, the federal education program that provides day care and pre-school services to young children from low-income families. This cut occurred at a time when childcare costs were also increasing in Uncle Sam’s country.
In addition, the government also halted Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood for a year because the agency provides abortion services, forcing about 50 clinics to close starting in early 2025.
In fact, Planned Parenthood provides a variety of women’s health services, from routine health exams to breast cancer screening and early prenatal care.
Women’s health and reproductive rights advocacy groups say moves by the Trump administration and Republican members of Congress to weaken these programs are making it even more difficult for families to get the support and health services needed to increase birth rates.
Apart from that, Trump’s policy is also considered to exclude LGBTQ+ families.Because, in the Project 2025 document adopted by Trump, it is stated that children develop best in “intact heterosexual marriages.”
“Married men and women is an ideal and natural family structure because every child has the right to be raised by the man and woman who bear them,” the document states.
Project 2025 also contains a number of proposals that critics consider unfriendly to women’s health. For example, the document calls for removing access to
mifepristone,
A drug commonly used in abortion procedures and miscarriage management.
