It’s been 13 years since Air India ‘lost track’
plane
Boeing 737. But suddenly last month, this missing plane appeared in a remote parking lot in the airport area.
Initially, this cargo plane was decommissioned in 2012, then the Boeing 737-200 was parked at Kolkata Airport since that year.Somehow then this plane ‘disappeared’ from the airline’s records.
Although the records were lost, years later the airport authorities continued to charge parking fees for aircraft and issue invoices to Air India.

Air India then disputed the invoice. This is because, according to his party, Air India has no record of its aircraft with the registration number VT-EHH being parked there.
In fact, the root of this problem is that the Boeing 737 aircraft previously belonged to Indian Airlines. In 2007, this airline merged with Air India.
In the midst of this complex data transfer process, records and data regarding this decommissioned aircraft may be lost.
Even during the privatization of airlines in 2022, when Air India was bought by a private party, the Tata Group, Boeing 737 aircraft were also not included in the list of assets handed over.
Then this plane never appeared on the main transfer documents again.Assets accidentally missing from a takeover inventory can easily be forgotten, especially since Boeing 737 aircraft have long since stopped flying.
The plane that had disappeared from everyone’s memory was finally found again when Kolkata Airport officially issued a request to the airline to move the plane that had been parked for a long time.
The airline’s chief executive, Campbell Wilson, admitted that scrapping old aircraft was actually a common occurrence. However, this case is different, because the airline doesn’t even know that they own the old plane.
“As time went by, it faded from memory and only came to light when our friends at the Kolkata airport alerted us to its presence in a (very) remote parking lot and asked us to remove it! After verifying that it was indeed ours, we have now done so and thus removed another old cobweb from our cupboard,” Wilson said, as reported

Kolkata Airport finally charged 10 million rupees or around IDR 1.8 billion as accumulated parking fees.Air India confirmed that it has agreed to pay the dues.
On November 14, the missing plane finally left the remote parking area and was transported by road to Bengaluru. In the future, this old aircraft will be reused for ground-based technical training.
The Boeing 737-200 is a first-generation version of the model introduced in the late 1960s.This aircraft has long been retired from passenger service, but still has resale value. This is the only retired Air India aircraft being sold with its engine still intact.
