“Ngawi is famous for tempeh. So I thought about making tempeh chocolate. It’s not easy, because these two ingredients have different characteristics. But after lots of trials, I finally found the right taste,” said Ida.
Through coaching support from BNI, Ida received training in branding, packaging, digital marketing, and the opportunity to appear at various local and national exhibitions.
“From BNI’s training and support, we learned a lot about sales strategies and product development. Now our sales have increased significantly,” he said.
Now, Awicho employs five permanent employees and produces various variants of processed chocolate and tempeh such as tempeh chocolate, dry tempeh brownies and chocolate tempeh chips at a price of IDR 5,000 to IDR 25 thousand per package.
Ida also empowers housewives in the area where she lives to take part in the production process, so that they can have additional income.
“Most of them are the backbone of the family. I want them to be independent and have their own income,” said Ida.
Even though she was hit during the Covid-19 pandemic with a turnover of only IDR 2-3 million per month, Ida was able to recover thanks to her unyielding spirit and continuous support from BNI.
Now, Awicho’s turnover is stable at around IDR 25-30 million per month, even increasing to IDR 210 million during the Eid season.
Awicho’s story is clear proof that the spirit of heroism is also present in the business world.Through ongoing collaboration and assistance, BNI continues to encourage the birth of new economic heroes who are able to build community independence and prosperity from the grassroots.
With this spirit, BNI is committed to continuing the struggle of MSME actors throughout the country, lighting the fire of a new struggle for the nation’s economic progress.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that empowering MSMEs is one of BNI’s main focuses in supporting an inclusive and sustainable people’s economy.
“BNI is committed to providing real solutions for local business actors so they can move up in class through coaching and mentoring towards wider market access,” said Okki.
