Thailand

Navy spokesman, Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaipan, said the latest aerial imagery from the Ban Nong Ri area in Chamrak, Mueang district, Trat, showed Cambodian troops were setting up a new base in Thailand’s sovereign territory.

This location is in the same area as three permanent buildings that were once used by the Cambodian military as forts, but have now been demolished.
Parat emphasized that the Cambodian troops’ actions “once again undermine Thailand’s sovereignty”.
“Even though Thailand has exercised restraint and continued efforts for dialogue, Cambodian troops have not withdrawn from Thai territory,” Parat said.
“Instead, they have strengthened their units with special operations teams, snipers and multiple rocket launchers, and improved tactical positions and facilities in a way that clearly impacts Thai sovereignty,” he continued.
According to Parat, Cambodian troops have dug defensive trenches, installed heavy weapons and deployed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to monitor the positions and locations of Thai military infrastructure.This action, he said, was intimidation and a direct threat to Thailand’s sovereignty.
“Therefore, in order to maintain the sovereignty and security of the country, as well as the safety of local people, the Royal Thai Navy and related security agencies have no choice but to carry out military operations to expel Cambodian troops from Thailand’s sovereign territory,” he was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, in the Sa Kaeo area, fighting is still continuing between Cambodian and Thai troops.
Royal Thai Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvaree said clashes were still occurring on Tuesday (9/12) along the border.
He said Thai troops used light weapons such as mortars in this operation.Meanwhile, Cambodian troops are said to be using BM-21 rockets.
Thailand and Cambodia returned to war after a Bangkok soldier was killed and four soldiers were injured in a gunfight on the border at dawn Monday (8/12).

At least 48 people died and around 300,000 people were displaced as a result of the Thailand-Cambodia war in July.
