Thailand’s Second Territory Army said Thai Gripen jets launched an airstrike with high explosives on the Lim Heng casino in O’Smach, opposite Chong Chom in Surin province, as quoted
The Star
.
The operation was described as a lightning strike carried out amid escalating clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border.
According to Thai military reports, the casino was no longer just a place of entertainment but a major military stronghold for Cambodian troops.
This location is suspected to be a launch site for kamikaze (loitering)/FPV drones, hidden storage of the BM-21 multiple rocket launcher, as well as a concentration of troops and logistics.
Details of the damage and combat assessment of the air strikes are still being gathered, with the hope of further updates.
Earlier, Air Force spokesperson, Air Marshal Jakkrit Thammavichai, told the Joint Information Center on the Thailand-Cambodia Border Situation that all air operations against Cambodian military targets were carried out with the Army.
The operation used high-precision munitions to minimize the impact on civilians.
“The Royal Thai Air Force places the highest priority on weapons selection,” he said.
“The main condition is that air operations must not affect innocent civilians who are not involved in the fighting, whether Thai or Cambodian.”
The report from the Second Army Operations Center on Tuesday (9/12) afternoon stated that Cambodian troops attacked Thai positions from 09.00 to 17.00, expanding the fighting on various fronts.
Thai officials said Cambodia fired about 125 salvos of BM-21 rockets, estimated at 5,000 rockets.
In addition, they carried out 33 kamikaze/FPV drone attacks in several sectors, including Chong An Ma and Chong Bok in Ubon Ratchathani, Thiangka Mok in Si Sa Ket, and Chong Khana and Prasat Ta Kwai in Surin.
Thai troops responded with proportional fire, focusing on military targets and firing posts.
The report added that heavy clashes continued along the deployment line.
From the latest clashes, around four Thai soldiers were killed and 68 others were injured.
Meanwhile, it was reported that 61 Cambodian military were killed, with the number of injured “not yet assessed”.
The Second Army Region said it would continue to take “all measures” to ensure security, protect Thailand’s sovereignty, and safeguard citizens in border areas.
