Lai uploaded the photo on Facebook today, Thursday (20/11).In the picture, he is seen smiling while holding a plate of sushi.

“Today’s lunch is sushi and miso soup. Buri fish produced in #Kagoshima and shellfish produced in Hokkaido,” said the caption on the photo.
Lai on X also uploaded the same photo with a message and hashtags in Japanese characters.
In a separate post, he also appealed to his followers to consume Japanese food.
“Now might be a good time to eat Japanese food,” he said.
“This really shows the strong friendly relations between Taiwan and Japan,” added Lai.

Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Li’s post “fake”, as quoted by AFP.
Lai’s post came after China suspended imports of Japanese seafood on Wednesday following controversial and provocative statements from Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan.
“In this situation there will be no market for Japanese fishery products, even if Japan could export them to China,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a press conference in Beijing.
The country also banned its citizens from traveling to Sakura Country and suspended the release of two films

Chinese tourists make up the majority of visitors to Japan.If the ban lasts long it will impact the country’s economy and it is estimated that it will suffer trillions of yen in losses.
China’s series of actions were a response after Taichi said an armed attack on Taiwan could be the basis for Japan to deploy troops as part of the concept of collective defense.
China asked Takaichi to withdraw the statement.However, he was reluctant and said the comments were in line with Japanese principles.
If Takaichi still maintained his stance, Mao Ning said China would take firm and tough action.However, he did not explain further whether this action was a military operation or not.
