Despite the extensive damage to facilities, all residents were safe and no one died as a result of the flash flood.
“Thank God there were no casualties, because when the water first came, we made an announcement that residents were advised to go to a safe place,” he said.
The school, originally located around the Meureudu Watershed (DAS), was all gone when the flash flood arrived on Tuesday (25/11).
Now, the location of the elementary school has completely turned into a river.On the remaining foundations, the local community has placed a sign with the words “This is the location of MIN 05 Pidie Jaya which collapsed into the river”.
A resident of Gampong Geunteng who is the husband of the Head of MIN 05 Pidie Jaya Dahlan said that the school disappeared after being hit by gradual flooding.
First, he said, in the early hours of Wednesday (26/11), during the first flood, the water only eroded the bottom of several classrooms, then tomorrow night, the flood came again and carried away the entire school building.
“During the flood on Thursday night (27/11) the water took all the classrooms and buildings there. And today only the foundation of the front fence remains,” said Dahlan.
