Chairman of the PSSI National Team Body (BTN),
Sumardji
has taken the decision to resign from the position of manager of the Indonesian National Team and the U-23 Indonesian National Team.
Sumardji conveyed the decision to resign from the two positions at a press conference at Menara Mandiri, Jakarta, Tuesday (16/12) evening.Sumardji argued that the decision to resign was taken partly because he wanted to focus on being Chairman of BTN.
According to him, BTN’s tasks and challenges will be very difficult in the future.

“I will hand over the responsibilities that I have carried out so far to the General Chair so that in relation to the National Team Manager in the future the most appropriate figure can be found,” he said.
“The most sincere and the most responsible, the best for the future. Next I will focus on the national team because in the future it is related to the tasks that must be carried out,” said Sumardji.
Sumardji has filled the post of Manager of the Indonesian National Team since the era of Mochamad Iriawan’s leadership at PSSI in 2019. When Erick leads PSSI in 2023, his position will not change.
Prior to that, Sumardji was also the Manager of the Indonesian U-19 National Team in 2019. He was also the manager of Indonesia U-23 when they won the gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
Sumardji’s last assignment as team manager was when he accompanied the U-23 Indonesian National Team at the 2025 SEA Games. Unfortunately, the Garuda Muda Team failed miserably at the 2025 SEA Games because their progress was stopped in the group stage.
