Eight people were reportedly rushed to hospital following
shooting
which happened at Bondi Beach, one of Sydney’s tourist icons,
Australia
, on Sunday (14/12).
Australian emergency officials said several people were injured in the shooting although they could not immediately confirm the number of victims.
“We can just advise that we have treated several injured people at the scene and have now transported eight people to different hospitals,” a spokesperson for the New South Wales (NSW) ambulance service told

Meanwhile, NSW police said two people had been detained after several shots were heard at the location.
Police said officers were responding to a “still developing incident” and asked the public to avoid the area and take cover if they were in the area.
The police warned that the operation was still ongoing and emphasized that the public should obey officers’ directions and not cross police lines.
The Sydney Morning Herald
reported that one alleged perpetrator had been shot by police, while another was detained.However, the police have not confirmed these details.
“We are aware of an active security situation in Bondi. We urge people in the area to follow information from NSW Police,” said Premier Anthony Albanese’s spokesman.

The attack occurred during a community event that he described as a moment of joy.One of the community event organizers was also injured.
“This is the Jewish community at its best, coming together to celebrate a celebration. If we were targeted intentionally, this is something no one could have imagined. It is terrible,” he said.

, The Australian Jewish Association reported that the shooting occurred while there was a Hanukkah celebration at the scene.
The Israeli government has also opened its voice.Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the incident.
“Our brothers and sisters in Sydney have been attacked by evil terrorists in an extremely brutal attack on the Jewish community who were lighting candles to celebrate Hanukkah at Bondi Beach,” Herzog said in a statement.
Even so, Australian authorities have not yet explained the details of the incident and the perpetrator of the shooting.
The video circulating on X shows people running on Bondi Beach when several shots and police sirens are heard.
Another video showed two men being pinned to the ground by uniformed police on a small pedestrian bridge, with officers apparently attempting to resuscitate one of them.
