after Moscow’s military ship, Yantar, entered British waters in recent weeks.
British Defense Minister John Healey said Russian military ships entered British waters twice throughout 2025. The first time was in January and the second time was more recent.

“Yantar has been on the edge of UK waters, north of Scotland, entering wider UK waters over the last few weeks,” Healey said at a press conference on Wednesday, quoted

Yantar, he said, was a Russian fleet designed to put and hold the undersea infrastructure of Britain and its allies at risk.
Healey then said the UK was deploying Navy frigates and Air Force aircraft to monitor and track Yantar’s every movement.However, during this monitoring process, Kremlin ships attacked British troops.
“Yantar deployed a laser on our pilot,” he said.
Furthermore, the Minister of Defense emphasized that shooting lasers at pilots was very dangerous.He said this issue had been conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Healey also indicated that Britain would take military action if Russia did not heed his warnings.
“We’re watching you. We know what you’re doing. If the Yantar sails south this week, we’re ready,” Healey said.
Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in England said Healey’s statement had actually made security in Europe worse.
“With its Russophobic policies and escalation of militaristic hysteria, London is contributing to the further degradation of European security and creating conditions for a new dangerous situation,” the Russian Embassy said in a statement.

“We urge the UK to refrain from taking steps that worsen the crisis in Europe,” they continued.
Britain and its NATO allies have repeatedly raised concerns about the risks Russia poses to offshore infrastructure.In recent times, underwater telecommunications and electricity cables have been suspected of being sabotaged.
European experts and politicians accuse Russia of orchestrating a hybrid war against the West as they clash over Ukraine.
