Usman is known to have a close relationship with Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team.He is also under the same management, namely Ali Abdelaziz.
In the past, Usman admitted that he would not face fighters who were close to him.One example is Israel Adesanya.Usman admitted that he would not move up to middle class and win the middle class belt because he did not want to face Israel Adesanya, who also has Nigerian blood.

Now everything has changed.Usman believes that he now understands better that duels between fighters who have close relationships can still be held if they have high selling value.
“In the early moments of my career, I wouldn’t have been comfortable talking about the possibility of fighting a friend or a fighter like this [who is close to me],” Usman said as quoted by

“But now, I think I am wiser. I understand that the opportunity to entertain the audience at this level of attraction will not arise often,” he continued.
Apart from a change in attitude, Usman doesn’t have many choices to get up at this time.He certainly can’t be picky about his opponents if he wants to be the best again.
Usman lost his welterweight belt when he lost to Leon Edwards in 2022. Usman then moved up to middleweight but lost to Khamzat Chimaev.
Islam Makhachev himself currently has the status of welterweight champion.He had just moved up from lightweight and immediately got a title fight against Jack Della Maddalena.
In the duel against Della Maddalena, Makhachev was able to appear dominant and win by absolute points.Makhachev also succeeded in becoming champion in two different classes.
Usman’s hopes of directly facing Makhachev will certainly not be realized in the near future.He only sits in eighth position on the list of challengers at the moment.
Usman just made a comeback and recorded a win over Joaquin Buckley last June.Usman looks like he needs a few more wins until he can finally get a title fight.
