Because the threat is serious, if Customs and Excise cannot improve its performance and the public is still dissatisfied, Customs and Excise can be frozen,” said Purbaya after a Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission XI DPR RI in Central Jakarta, Thursday (27/11).
In fact, Purbaya did not hesitate to adopt the method of the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soeharto, who recruited the Swiss company Suisse Generale Surveillance (SGS3) to carry out customs duties.
“Replaced with SGS (Suisse Generale Surveillance), like in the old days. So, now Customs, Customs and Excise people really understand the threats they face,” he said.
According to Purbaya, employees of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance have begun to be enthusiastic about improving performance.He also applies artificial intelligence (AI) at a number of points where the directorate is tasked.
He hopes that this step can suppress naughty practices, such as underinvoicing, aka reporting the value of export-import goods that is lower than the original price.
“We are studying properly. Now the progress is quite good. I think next year (2026) will be safe. This means that Customs and Excise will be able to work well and professionally,” said Purbaya optimistically.
“If we fail to fix it, 16 thousand Customs and Excise employees will be laid off. Customs and Excise people are smart and ready to change the situation,” he continued.
