This “argument” occurred as hopes faded that a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, brokered by the United States, was fading.

, Rutte said Trump was “the only person in the whole world” capable of breaking the deadlock over the war in Ukraine.
“NATO is a defense alliance. But make no mistake, we are ready and willing to do whatever it takes to protect our population. Putin believes he can outlast us, but we are not going anywhere,” Rutte said.
On Wednesday (3/12), a planned meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the US delegation was canceled, hours after the US delegation returned home “empty-handed” after dialogue with Putin.
In five hours of negotiations in the Kremlin, the US delegation, which was attended by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, failed to reach an agreement with Putin.
However, Russia denied rejecting the deal.They said the disagreement was part of a “normal work process and compromise.”
Putin’s foreign policy aide, Yuri Ushakov, acknowledged that Putin reacted negatively to several points in the US proposals.He only confirmed that the US and Russia had discussed ‘territorial issues’, which refers to Russia’s claim to the entire Donbas region in Ukraine.
