Ma’ruf Amin
resigned from the position of Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (
MUI
).The resignation letter was submitted directly to MUI General Chair Anwar Iskandar on November 28 2025, and was discussed by the MUI leadership today.
Head of the MUI Information and Communication Division, Masduki Baidlowi, today read KH Ma’ruf Amin’s resignation letter in front of the MUI leadership.
“The resignation was related to his (Ma’ruf Amin’s) advanced age. And he felt he had served too long at the MUI,” Masduki said as quoted

Ma’ruf Amin is recorded as having served as a member of the MUI Fatwa Commission, General Chair of the MUI and is currently Chair of the MUI Advisory Council for two terms.
According to Masduki, the MUI has not yet determined its position regarding Ma’ruf Amin’s resignation request.
“Of course we will discuss (Ma’ruf Amin’s resignation letter) at the internal level first,” said Masduki.
Resigned from the PKB Syuro Council
Apart from resigning as Chairman of the MUI Advisory Council, Masduki said that Ma’ruf Amin also resigned from the position of Chairman of the Syuro Council of the National Awakening Party (PKB).
“He also resigned from his position as Chairman of the PKB Syuro Council,” said Masduki.
