Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (
MSMEs
)
Maman Abdurrahman
revealed that many MSMEs prefer to sell finished products from
China
compared to locally made.This happened because of the flood of imported products.
“The interesting phenomenon now is that because of the heavy flow of imported goods coming in, in the end our MSMEs tend to prefer to become
traders.
“So he bought the goods in China, so he just marketed them here,” he said at the BIG Conference 2025 at the Raffles Hotel, Jakarta, Monday (8/12).
Maman said that this condition means that labor absorption in Indonesia is not significant compared to selling one’s own products.

In fact, labor absorption from the MSME sector, he continued, contributes approximately 90 – 95 percent of the total national workforce.As a result, the economy is not moving.
The government itself targets strengthening the MSME production sector as a driving force for the local economy.
“What is targeted at the Ministry of MSMEs is to increase the production sector so that the regional economy is more mobile than just being a trader or consumer. So, we want to ensure that in the future Indonesia is not just a market,” said Maman.
Previously, Maman said that Chinese products were free to enter Indonesia without needing certification.He gave the example of a watch from China that came in without a label, then was given an Indonesian label.
This, he continued, is different from Indonesian products which have to take care of various permits, such as halal certification, Indonesian national standards (SNI), and permits from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).
“For Indonesian goods, local MSMEs, they must first go through NIB (business registration number), take care of halal certificates, then SNI (Indonesian National Standards), then (permit) BPOM (Food and Drug Monitoring Agency), and so on,” said Maman while attending the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) at Park Hyatt, Jakarta, last Tuesday (1/12).
