Mali U-23 coach, Fousseni Diawara, admitted that
U-23 Indonesian National Team
gave extraordinary resistance and punished his team in the second trial match which ended in a 2-2 draw at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, on Tuesday (18/11) evening.
“They punished us. We tried to recover, but it was very difficult. This was a very interesting match. But, we are happy with our performance. However, Indonesia is a very good team. They are at the same level as us,” said Diawara after the match.
The match was fierce from the start.Mali first opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Sekou Kone’s goal.Indonesia was then able to equalize at 1-1 in the 38th minute through Mauro Zijlstra’s kick after receiving Hokky Caraka’s pass.

In the second half, Indonesia took a 2-1 lead thanks to Rafael Struick’s goal in the 52nd minute.The goal started with an attack from the right side which ended with Raka Cahyana’s pass into the penalty box.
However, Mali found momentum again.Sekou Kone scored his second goal again in the 70th minute using a through ball from Hamidou Makalou, making the score 2-2 until the match was over.
Even though they only drew and failed to repeat the 3-0 victory in the first trial, Diawara was still satisfied with the performance of his team.
“I’m happy with our team’s performance. But, they punished us. We played very well, but they were very effective. They punished us. It was a good match,” said Diawara.
Diawara also praised the tactical development of his players and hopes to meet Indonesia again in the future.
“Tactically, our players played very well. I am very happy. This is a good experience for the team, for Mali. We hope to play against Indonesia again later. Maybe, we don’t know,” said Diawara.
This draw is an evaluation capital for the U-23 Indonesian National Team ahead of appearing at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand next December.
