Makhachev officially won the UFC welterweight world title after defeating the defending champion, Jack Della Maddalena, at UFC 322 in New York, Sunday (16/11).
The fighter from Dagestan appeared dominant from the first round.Makhachev didn’t give Della Maddalena many opportunities to show off her best abilities.

Makhachev’s efforts to fight on the ground in every round overwhelmed Della Maddalena.The referee finally declared that Makhachev won by a unanimous decision over Della Maddalena (50-45, 50-45, 50-45).
This result makes Makhachev the 11th fighter to successfully win championship titles in two different classes.
The fighters in this group are Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, Hendry Cejudo, Randy Couture, B.J Penn, Georges St-Pierre, Alex Pereira, Jon Jones, and Ilia Topuria.
Islam Makhachev is also listed as the first Russian fighter to win the welterweight belt at UFC.
Apart from that, Makhachev is now the second fighter to win the welterweight and light weight titles after the first success was done by BJ Penn.
