“Maybe I shouldn’t have said openly that I wanted to leave,” Modric was quoted as saying

Modric recounted the moment when Tottenham boss Daniel Levy stopped him from moving to Chelsea.
“Even so, I played very well at Tottenham. They were very hard on me, and the club chairman, Daniel Levy, made it very clear in our first meeting that there was absolutely no way they would let me go,” said Modric.
“After that, I continued to act as if nothing had happened. I knew it would be complicated; both clubs are in London, and there is rivalry,” added Modric.
Modric also revealed that his desire to move remains strong, despite understanding that the situation is difficult.
“I want to go, even though I know it will be very difficult,” said Modric.
“In the end, that didn’t happen, and I continued playing, and it was probably one of my best seasons. We finished fourth; that year Chelsea won the Champions League,” added Modric.
He then confirmed that fate led him to greater opportunities the following year.
“That season was phenomenal and a year later, a better opportunity came. And finally, the results were even better. Maybe if I had joined Chelsea, I would not have gone to Real Madrid,” said Modric.
