“Recruitment is carried out openly, professionally and competency-based. However, we also pay great attention to local potential,” he said in an official statement, Saturday (6/12).
He explained that the absorption of local workers was carried out in stages, namely 810 people were recruited in 2023, 754 people in 2024, and 984 people throughout 2025.
“Riau’s young generation has the enthusiasm and capacity that is in line with the values of the transformation that is being carried out,” said Jarwa.
According to him, young Riau people now occupy various positions, ranging from plantation and factory operational staff to technical and administrative staff.
National Transformation and Resilience
This massive recruitment step is part of the PTPN IV Regional III transformation process following the formation of the PTPN IV PalmCo Subholding at the end of 2023.
This restructuring is not only oriented towards organizational efficiency, but is also directed at strengthening human resources and supporting national strategic programs.According to Jarwa, this transformation goes hand in hand with the digitalization agenda which started in 2019.
The implementation of digital systems is said to speed up business processes, increase transparency and strengthen corporate governance.
“Digitalization is the foundation for increasing worker productivity and welfare. At the same time, we ensure that this transformation continues to generate benefits for the surrounding community,” said Jarwa.
Now, PTPN IV Regional III employs thousands of employees, most of whom are from the Riau region. Not only at the operational level, many local workers also occupy strategic positions, from plantation managers, section heads, to regional leaders.
The entity previously known as PTPN V manages more than 76 thousand hectares of oil palm and rubber plantations, and partners with thousands of plasma farmers who together work around 56 thousand hectares of productive land. This partnership is the main support for the people’s plantation economy in Riau.
Jarwa emphasized that the transformation carried out by the company did not change its commitment to regional development.
“There will be no centralization or reduction of local roles as feared by some parties. As a state entity, we remain committed to the purpose of its formation: to grow and develop together with the community,” he said.
Apart from creating job opportunities, PTPN IV Regional III also strengthens the contribution of the palm oil sector in supporting the Asta Cita program of the President of the Republic of Indonesia – especially in the areas of food and energy security, farmer empowerment, and reducing carbon emissions.
This effort is realized through more environmentally friendly management of factory waste and the use of biogas plants in various operational units.
The high absorption of local labor at PTPN IV Regional III is clear evidence that the transformation of BUMN in the plantation sector is not just about business efficiency, but also a strategic step in human development and strengthening the regional economy.
As more and more of Riau’s young generation are involved in the palm oil industry, it is hoped that superior human resources will be born who are able to strengthen food, energy and national economic security – starting from the region itself.
