Through his spokesperson, Jodi Mahardi, Luhut denied these accusations.He refused to be associated with the company suspected of being the culprit behind the floods on Sumatra Island.
“This information is not true. Pak Luhut does not own, is not affiliated with, and is not involved in any way – either directly or indirectly – with Toba Pulp Lestari,” said Jodi in his official statement, Thursday (4/12).

“Any claims circulating regarding his ownership or involvement are false and baseless information,” said Luhut’s spokesman.
Jodi said her boss, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, consistently complies with all statutory provisions governing transparency, government ethics and managing potential conflicts of interest.
According to him, Luhut is also always open to the fact verification process and encourages the public to refer to credible sources of information.
“We urge all parties to be more careful in spreading unverified information, and to prioritize ethics in the digital space so as not to cause misunderstanding and disinformation in society,” he explained.
“To ensure accuracy and prevent the spread of false information, we invite the media and the public to provide clarification directly to us if necessary,” stressed Jodi.
On Monday (24/11), North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution recommended that the central government close the operations of PT Toba Pulp Lestari (TPL).This follows the ongoing agrarian conflict between companies and indigenous communities in Buntu Panaturan, Sihaporas Village, Pematang Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency.
Bobby confirmed that the North Sumatra Provincial Government would send an official letter to the central government, within one week at the latest from the time the recommendation was made.According to him, this step is important because TPL operations are in 12 districts in the North Sumatra region.
On the other hand, Toba Pulp Lestari denies being the culprit behind the devastating floods in Sumatra which claimed the lives of hundreds of people.The company conveyed the denial via an official letter to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) on Monday (1/12).
“The company firmly denies accusations that operations are the cause of the ecological disaster,” said TPL Corporate Secretary Anwar Lawden.
“All HTI (Industrial Plantation Forest) activities have gone through a High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) assessment by a third party to ensure the implementation of Sustainable Forest Management principles,” he explained.
However, TPL admits that it still opens up space for constructive dialogue to ensure fair and responsible sustainability in the area of ​​Forest Utilization Business Licensing.
“Regarding the allegations of deforestation, we emphasize that the company carries out harvesting and replanting operations within the concession based on the spatial layout, General Work Plan (RKU) and Annual Work Plan (RKT) that have been determined by the government,” said Anwar.
