This call follows statements by Takaichi last week before the Japanese parliament that an armed attack on Taiwan could be grounds for Japan to deploy troops, to support the island based on the concept of “collective defense”.
If the emergency in Taiwan involved “warships and the use of military force, then it could be considered a situation that threatens (Japan’s) survival,” Takaichi told parliament.

Recently, China has become increasingly aggressive in intimidating Taiwan, a region that Beijing claims is a dissident because it wants to separate itself from China.
China has also repeatedly emphasized that it does not rule out the possibility of using military force to take over the self-governing island.
China’s Consul General in Osaka, Xue Jian, was furious with Takaichi’s statement and even uploaded a statement on X threatening the PM.

He did not mention Takaichi by name but quoted a news article regarding his comments.
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said on Thursday that Xue’s post was “highly inappropriate”.
“We strongly urge the Chinese side to continue taking appropriate steps so that this does not affect the overall direction of Japan-China relations,” added Motegi, who was in Canada for the G7 meeting at the time.
Meanwhile, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong then summoned the Japanese Ambassador in Beijing, Kenji Kanasugi, on Thursday (13/11) to ask for clarification on Takaichi’s statement.
In a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry, Sun expressed his “strong protest over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s erroneous statements regarding China”.
“If anyone dares to disrupt China’s unification efforts in any form, China will definitely carry out a harsh counterattack,” the statement added.
China’s Foreign Ministry said it “will not tolerate” Takaichi’s comments.
“The Japanese side should immediately correct the erroneous action and retract the baseless statement,” spokesman Lin Jian told reporters at a news conference.
However, Takaichi said that he had no intention of walking back his remarks and stressed that his statement was in line with Japan’s previous stance.
However, he emphasized that he would avoid mentioning certain scenarios explicitly in the future.
Known as a hardliner against China, Takaichi regularly visits the Yasukuni shrine which honors fallen Japanese soldiers, and is a vocal supporter of Taiwan, including calling for security cooperation with the self-ruled island.
