In his letter, Yamazaki emphasized that Takaichi’s statement on November 7 was not what China saw.Tokyo has absolutely no intention of deploying the Japanese Self-Defense Forces as alleged.
Yamazaki also stated that Japan’s position regarding Taiwan had not changed since 1972. This was in line with the Japan-China Joint Communique, an agreement in which the two countries agreed to normalize diplomatic relations.
Yamazaki also spoke about China’s decision to disrupt trade cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that Japan would overcome this problem through constructive dialogue.
Last week, China’s UN Ambassador, Fu Cong, sent a letter to Guterres complaining about Takaichi’s comments regarding Taiwan. In his letter, he said Takaichi’s statement violated international law and diplomatic norms, because it indicated that Japan intended to interfere militarily in China’s affairs.
Relations between China and Japan have been hot recently. This is the aftermath of Takaichi’s statement to parliament on November 7 that Japan could get involved militarily if China launched an attack on Taiwan.
China was furious because it felt that Japan had provoked and crossed the line.Beijing asked Takaichi to withdraw these remarks, but Takaichi refused.
China finally banned its citizens from traveling to Japan and stopped marine products and anime broadcasts.China also officially complained about this to the UN.
China has always viewed Taiwan as part of its territory.Meanwhile, Taiwan, which already has its own government, wants independence from Beijing.
China has always considered the Taiwan issue as a non-negotiable red line.Beijing intends to reunite Taiwan with military force if necessary.
On Monday (24/11), UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that currently reducing tensions through dialogue is the most important thing in responding to the China-Japan problem.
He also emphasized that the letter sent to the UN would be fully handled by the UN and all member countries.
