“We will come for you, our enemies, come, come for you; even if you are a volcano, I will make my blood a bullet and your blood a river,” as quoted by Middle East Eye.
The parade was held in Damascus, marking the first anniversary of the fall of long-time ruler Bashar al-Assad.The parade was attended by Syria’s interim President, Ahmed al-Sharaa and other senior Syrian officials.
On Tuesday (9/12), Israel’s Minister of Diaspora and Countering Antisemitism, Amichai Chikli, shared the video and uploaded it on X by the right-wing information gathering account Visegrad24.
Chikli quoted the post as saying: “War is inevitable.”
Previously, this particular slogan was heard at a military parade in February, used by fighters of the Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ armed wing.
According to independent Syrian media organization Enab Baladi, some of the slogans are also used by Algerian soldiers during parades and training.
On Wednesday (10/12), Chikli posted a long message on X, accusing Syria of carrying out “jihadist terror”
“A fully developed Islamic jihadist caliphate is now on Israel’s northern borders,” he wrote.
“Israel will not stand idly by while the caliphate grows stronger. The lessons of October 7 must be applied: Don’t let the beast become an untouchable monster.”
Chikli did not explain further what Israeli actions would be taken.
Meanwhile, Israel Army Radio, citing anonymous security officials, reported the defense establishment, including senior officials, was meeting to discuss the recording.
“We deal with the Syrian regime with a doctrine of complete suspicion. We monitor it with distrust,” one official told the radio station.
“It is extreme and jihadist in nature, and we must not misinterpret it,” he added.
Israel, which has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights in violation of international law since 1967, expanded its territory in southern Syria after the fall of Assad’s government.
In December 2024, Israel captured the entire United Nations (UN) patrol buffer zone that previously separated Israeli and Syrian forces in the Golan Heights.
At an international conference in Doha last weekend, Sharaa said Israel was “exporting the crisis” to other countries to divert attention from the “horrific massacre” in Gaza.
Syria is also working with other countries to pressure Israel to withdraw from the territory it has occupied over the past 12 months.
