Six matches have been played in all competitions. The result was five wins and one draw.Gladbach won 3-1 over Karlsruher in the DFB Pokal, then won over St Pauli, Koln and Heidenheim in the Bundesliga, and once won over Lierse SK in a non-competitive event.
In the Bundesliga standings, Gladbach is now ranked 11th with 13 points.A significant jump compared to the start of this season when Gladbach was in the relegation zone.
Kevin Diks returned to play in this match as a center back in a four-back formation. The Indonesian national team defender played an important role in reducing RB Leipzig’s attacks.
The way Gladbach defended was one of the important reasons behind the point against RB Leipzig at the Borussia Park Stadium.
“We showed that we can get points against top teams. Our basis was a strong defensive performance. We tried to close down space. Leipzig has quality individuals, so they kept trying. If we had been sharper, we could have created opportunities. Overall we are satisfied with this point,” said midfielder Rocco Reitz after the match against Leipzig, quoted on the official Gladbach website.
Coach Eugene Polanski, who has been credited with improving Gladbach’s performance after becoming Gerardo Seoane’s replacement, also said he was satisfied with the draw against Leipzig, who are currently trying to catch Munich at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
“We are happy with the points in Leipzig. Of course we want to win, but our opponent is second place, we are of course happy with the performance we put in. We played well defensively,” said Polanski.
