Tidal floods hit settlements on the coast of the Java Sea in Subang, West Java with water levels reaching 60 centimeters, submerging hundreds of residents’ houses.Apart from occurring in Blanakan District, floods also hit two villages, namely Mayangan Village and Legonwetan Village in Legonkulon District.
Floods also cause roads and public facilities to be submerged, disrupting community activities.
“Today in Mayangan Village and Legonwetan Village, water has entered residential areas from a height of 20 centimeters to 60 centimeters in residential areas,” said BPBD Subang Member Didin Tajudin, Thursday (4/12).
The impact of the flood also made students go home from school early because the school was worried that the flood would continue to rise and endanger the students.Meanwhile, affected people could only evacuate their valuables due to the flooding.
Bandung
On Thursday (4/12), floods hit a number of sub-districts in Bandung Regency due to the high intensity of rainfall which occurred at around 18.15 WIB.West Java BPBD noted that five villages/sub-districts were affected. The worst hit area was Bojongsoang with 615 housing units submerged.
The five villages/sub-districts affected by the flood are Cingcin in Soreang District;Bojongsoang in Bojongsoang District;Kamasan and Margahurip in Banjaran District;and Cangkuang Wetan in Dayeuhkolot District.
In Kamasan, inundation also affected 80 houses, 47 houses in Cangkuang Wetan, and 6 houses in Cingicin.Meanwhile, in Margahurip there were reports that one house suffered moderate damage due to strong flood currents.
West Java BPBD Public Relations Officer Hadi Rahmat said the water overflow occurred very quickly due to heavy rainfall, especially in lowland residential areas.
“Currently we are still in the assessment and data collection stage at the affected locations. The water level ranges between 0-70cm, but local officers and authorities are still on standby to anticipate the possibility of increased flooding,” said Hadi when contacted, Friday (5/12).
In this case, the West Java Province BPBD has coordinated with the Bandung Regency BPBD to carry out a direct inspection of the situation in the field to ascertain the need for assistance and mitigation for affected residents.
Jakarta
Tidal floods have also hit DKI Jakarta Province and it is predicted that the peak will occur on Friday (5/12) today.Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD Data and Information Center (Kapusdatin) Mohammad Yohan said that the tidal floods were caused by the phenomenon of maximum tides in sea water along with the phenomena of the Full Moon and Perigee (Supermoon) phases.
“What has the potential to increase the maximum height of sea tides is coastal flooding or ro in the northern coastal area of Jakarta. This causes the Danger/Alert 1 Fish Market Water Gate to rise on Thursday at 07.00 WIB and the occurrence of several inundations in the DKI Jakarta area,” he said.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also prepared a number of anticipatory steps to handle the peak of tidal flooding that occurred by deploying a number of Water Resources Service (SDA) pumps to mitigate the peak of tidal flooding.
Pump houses and sluice gates will be alerted at a number of points, including Marina Sluice Gate, Kali Asin Pump/Polder, Ancol Pump, PIK Junction Pump, Muara Angke Pump, Fish Market Pump, Tanjungan Pump, Pluit Reservoir Pump House, Kamal Polder Pump House.
