The three matches in question are: against Cape Verde with a 1-1 result on May 29, Singapore with a 2-1 result on September 4, and against Palestine with a 1-0 result on September 8.Because of this violation, FIFA punished Malaysia with a 0-3 defeat in those three matches.
Apart from the sanction of losing the match, FIFA also imposed another punishment in the form of a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs or the equivalent of IDR 209.6 million.
FAM plans to submit a request asking for an explanation from FIFA regarding the additional punishment.
“FAM will submit a written request to obtain reasons for this decision from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee before considering the next steps to be taken in this matter,” wrote FAM in an official statement.
These penalties are additional for Malaysia because last September FIFA also punished FAM with a fine of 350,000 Swiss francs for using fake documents.
The seven naturalized players involved in the fake documents were also fined 2,000 Swiss francs and banned from playing for 12 months. The seven players are Joao Figueiredo, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Facundo Garces, Jon Irazabal, Gabriel Palmero and Hector Hevel.
