Currently, Portugal needs at least three points from the remaining two matches, including facing Sweden, in order to ensure they qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
If they succeed in securing victory against Ireland, Portugal will be guaranteed to automatically qualify as winners of Group F, without being affected by Hungary’s result against Armenia.
The Spanish National Team, which will face Georgia in the Group E match at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena Stadium, Tbilisi, Sunday (16/11) at 00.00 WIB, also has an open door to qualify directly for the World Cup.
Spain is now in first place in Group B of the 2026 World Cup Qualification standings in the European zone, nine points ahead of Georgia in third place.
Spain could ensure their progress to the 2026 World Cup if they are able to beat Georgia in the match, provided that Türkiye fails to gain full points against Bulgaria.
Apart from Portugal and Spain, there are two other countries that have the opportunity to ensure automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup on matchday nine, namely Croatia.
In the Group L match, Croatia only needs one more point from the remaining two matches to ensure they qualify for the 2026 World Cup and on matchday nine they will face the Faroe Islands, Saturday (15/11) at 02.45 WIB.
Meanwhile, in the Group B match, Switzerland can ensure that they qualify automatically if they beat Sweden, while on the other hand, Kosovo failed to secure full points when they met Slovenia.
