SEA Games 2025
This is a new history of 30 years when referring to Indonesia’s achievements in the SEA Games when it was not the host.
The Indonesian contingent secured the runner up position at the end of the match on Friday (19/12).The difference in gold between Indonesia and Vietnam, namely five gold, cannot be made up with the remaining three numbers competing for gold medals on the final day, Saturday (20/12).
For Indonesia, this runner up position is an extraordinary achievement.Since becoming runner up at the 1995 SEA Games, Indonesia has never again been in second place in the final SEA Games standings when not acting as host.

“Indonesia’s position as runner-up is new history, considering that the last time Indonesia was in that ranking was at the 1995 SEA Games.”
“In previous SEA Games, especially when Indonesia was not the host, Indonesia’s average position was in third or fourth place,” said Erick Thohir.
Erick Thohir also said that the success of Indonesian athletes at the 2025 SEA Games could not be separated from the support of President Prabowo Subianto.Prabowo gave direct instructions when releasing the athletes at the Palace.
Apart from that, Erick Thohir also considers changing the bonus for gold winners at the 2025 SEA Games to IDR 1 billion as an important point to increase athletes’ motivation to excel.
“This result is inseparable from the President’s support which enabled Indonesia to send the best athletes to the 2025 Sea Games. Plus the President’s direct motivation and direction at the Palace, including encouragement that the athletes’ struggle at the SEA Games is a noble task in defending and making the nation proud.”
“The President’s policy of providing an additional incentive of IDR 1 billion for athletes who win gold medals also provides motivation for athletes to save for their future, because many parents see that athletes have no guarantee of a future,” said Erick Thohir.
