Chairman
Commission IV DPR RI
Titiek Soeharto asked the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) to stop all tree cutting processes in forest areas, both legal and illegal.
“In essence, we ask the Ministry of Forestry to stop all tree cutting,
illegal logging
“, both legal and illegal, which are clearly detrimental to society,” Titiek told reporters at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Thursday (4/12).
Titiek explained this after Commission IV of the DPR held a meeting with Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni and his staff regarding the flash flood and landslide disasters that occurred in three provinces on the island of Sumatra – Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra.

Apart from that, Titiek also asked the Ministry of Forestry to punish anyone who cuts down trees which causes logs to be scattered at the location of the Sumatra flood disaster.
“We ask the Ministry to stop this. Then, find out, punish anyone who causes so many trees, logs to fill rivers and seas, yes, beaches. So we ask that this be dealt with,” said the Gerindra politician.
Regarding the licensing process, Titiek will review the Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) of each land clearing program.
“And, especially regarding land clearing for plantations or mining, the AMDAL will be reviewed again. Don’t just play around,” asked the woman who is also known as the daughter of the late second President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soeharto.
Titiek emphasized to the Ministry of Forestry not to be afraid to carry out the action process related to forest damage by cutting down trees.
“We support the Ministry to take action against anyone who causes this damage. You don’t need to be afraid of whether there are stars behind it, whether there are two stars, three stars or whatever, we support the Ministry so that it will be prosecuted and it doesn’t happen again,” he stressed.
Floods and landslides in three provinces in Sumatra simultaneously at the end of November were thought to have been triggered by deforestation, resulting in a bad disaster during high rainfall.
One of the indicators is satellite image records, including the appearance of thousands of logs carried away by flash floods.
One of them can be seen in a video uploaded by the Instagram account @antaranewscom, showing piles of wood filling the estuary and lip of Parkit Beach on Friday (28/11) after floods submerged several areas in West Sumatra.
Then public suspicion arose regarding the presence of thousands of pieces of wood that had been cut as one of the causes of the flood.
“On Friday (28/11), the estuary area and lip of Parakeet Beach were covered with thousands of pieces of wood and other drifting rubbish. This condition disrupted fishermen’s access and changed the appearance of the beach significantly,” said the statement in the upload.
