South Africa
on November 22-23, 2025.

“So not only attend, but be active in dialogue, build concrete networks with other leaders, and come home with deliverables that can be translated into real cooperation for investment, employment and technology transfer to Indonesia,” said Amelia when contacted, Friday (21/11).

The Gerindra Party politician assessed that Gibran’s presence was in accordance with the constitution.According to him, the vice president in previous periods also often represented the president in multilateral forums.
He gave the example of Jusuf Kalla, who repeatedly represented President Jokowi at the UN General Assembly and various high-level UN forums.In the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Boediono was also prepared to attend the G20 Summit.
“So from a precedent perspective, the presence of the vice president at a forum like this is a normal thing, not something that is outside the corridor,” said Amelia.
Amelia added that the G20 Summit in Johannesburg was important because it was being held for the first time on the African continent, with a big agenda regarding equality, sustainability and the voice of the Global South.Indonesia previously hosted the G20 Presidency in Bali.
“We hope that he will bring continuity, strengthen Indonesia’s position as a North-South bridge, promote Africa-Asia cooperation, while also voicing the interests of developing countries in issues of climate financing, food security, energy and digital economic governance,” he said.
Gibran left for Johannesburg from Halim Perdanakusuma Indonesian Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Friday (21/11) morning.
During the series of G20 summits, he is said to be holding a number of bilateral meetings with state leaders.Gibran is also scheduled to deliver President Prabowo’s speech regarding strengthening relations and cooperation between countries.
