The report also claims Cho Jin-woong was fined in 2003, when he was not yet widely known, for assaulting members of a theater troupe while drinking alcohol, and that his driver’s license was also revoked after driving drunk.
Saram Entertainment as Cho Jin-woong’s agency admitted that it partially confirmed the actor’s past violations, but denied the allegations of sexual assault.
“We confirmed to the actor that he had made a mistake while still a minor,” the agency said Friday (5/12) evening.
“However, this confirmation is based on facts dating back more than 30 years and it is difficult to understand the entire situation. However, we would like to emphasize that he was not involved in any sexual assault.”
Cho Jin-woong made his debut in the film Once Upon a Time in High School (2004) with the stage name Cho Jin-woong, not his real name, Cho Won-joon.
A source quoted by Dispatch claimed the name change was intended to hide his criminal history.
Television station SBS said it had replaced Cho Jin-woong’s narrationĀ for its four-episode documentary War on Crime, the first episode of which has already been broadcast.
“We are also taking action for the first episode,” the television station said.
Cho Jin-woong has actually finished filming the second season of the hit drama Signal (2016) in which he stars opposite actors Kim Hye-soo and Lee Je-hoon, which is planned to air next year.
There has been no further news regarding the fate of Signal season 2 or Second Signal following this problem.
