with the initials MY was arrested at the PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) Weda Bay Special Airport,
North Maluku
, for smuggling mineral materials.
MY was arrested by the Integrated Task Force, on Friday (5/12), after being caught carrying 5 packs of mixed nickel powder and 4 packs of pure nickel powder onto a Super Air Jet plane bound for Manado.
“Currently the perpetrator has been processed further by the relevant authorities and evidence of smuggled mineral materials will be subjected to further research by the relevant agencies,” said the Task Force in a written statement, Saturday (6/12).

Furthermore, mineral smuggling activities carried out by Chinese foreigners have also been detected by the Halilintar Forest Area Control Task Force (Satgas PKH) which is tasked with monitoring mining smuggling.
It is known that PT IWIP Special Airport has been operating since 2019 after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).
However, from the evaluation results, IWIP Airport has not met the minimum standards for state equipment that must be present in an aviation facility that serves the traffic of people and goods.
As a follow-up, since November 29 2025 at IWIP Airport, the government has placed an Integrated Task Force consisting of the TNI PAM Task Force, Customs, Immigration, Polri, BMKG, AirNav Indonesia, AvSec, fish, animal and plant quarantine and health quarantine.
It is through the Integrated Task Force that supervision at IWIP Airport continues to be improved so that every flight activity runs in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
