Cambodians support the decision of the Cambodian Olympic Committee (NOCC) to withdraw from participation
SEA Games 2025

Cambodian and Thai military tensions in the border area are the main reason the Cambodian Olympic Committee (NOCC) wrote to the SEA Games Federation (SAGF) stating that it would withdraw from the 2025 SEA Games for security reasons.
This step is supported by the Director General of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia, Kin Phea.According to him, security is a factor that must be prioritized in this condition.

“Thailand cannot be relied on as a host and I am worried that our athletes will face some kind of intimidation during their participation. We cannot trust the Thai side even though they have testified in guaranteeing Cambodian athletes,” said Kin Phea, quoted from

The day after the opening ceremony, Cambodia decided to withdraw after the Thai and Cambodian militaries attacked each other in the border zone.
The border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has been going on since the first decade of 2000. The situation escalated in the first half of this year because there were attacks from both sides.
The dispute escalated in November 2025. This situation caused Cambodia to cancel sending athletes from sports such as football, silat and wrestling.
Based on a statement by the Secretary General of NOCC, Vath Chamroeun, security was the reason they withdrew Cambodian athletes even though they had attended the opening ceremony on Tuesday (9/12).
“The decision was not taken just like that. We really appreciate the service, warmth and sporting enthusiasm for our athletes from the Thailand SEA Games committee and the Thailand Olympic Committee so far,” wrote Chamroeun in his statement Wednesday (10/12).
