According to Teddy, the government immediately went to the disaster location that same day.Including the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Suharyanto who flew directly from Lumajang Regency, East Java.
“So that’s all from the first day, I made sure I fought hard, as quickly as possible there,” said Teddy at a press conference for the Sumatra disaster response at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, Friday (19/12).
“So, in this field, all TNI, Polri, Basarnas officers, as conveyed by the TNI Commander, regional BNPB, were all in the first second, the first day without cameras,” he added.
Teddy also said that President Prabowo Subianto also communicated directly with the local regional head at the time of the incident.
He said Prabowo immediately communicated with the Governor of North Sumatra, the Regent of South Tapanuli, and the Regent of Central Tapanuli to confirm conditions on the ground.
“Later that day, the President instructed, instructed the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, to coordinate all forces to mobilize everything we have as much as possible. Go straight there,” he said.
Then on November 27, Teddy said that all helicopters on Sumatra Island were deployed to the affected areas.Apart from that, helicopters and planes from Java were also flown to Sumatra to help.
“From Java to Sumatra, the helicopter takes 13 to 15 hours to fly. Then on the 27th, several helicopters arrived in Bandar Aceh. Picked up the PLN Jetset, picked up logistics. Same, there was no media there,” he said.
Not only that, Teddy said tens of thousands of joint TNI/Polri personnel were also deployed, moving to carry out evacuations and emergency response.
“And until now, the total is probably more than 80 helicopters, planes, TNI, Polri, Basarnas, police, a combination of the private sector, assisted by CSR, assisted by all colleagues,” he said.
Muhammadiyah Criticism
Currently, a number of parties assess that disaster management in Sumatra is still slow. There is also pressure regarding national disaster status.
One of those who criticized was the Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah for Law and Human Rights
Busyro Muqoddas
.
According to him handling
flash flood and landslide disasters
in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra over the past three weeks progress has been slow.
“Our monitoring via Zoom with representatives in the three provinces was slow, with all the consequences of being slow,” said Busyro at Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University (UMY), Bantul, DIY, Friday (19/12).
Therefore, Busyro believes that it is necessary to determine national disaster status in order to accelerate the handling process in Sumatra.
According to Busyro, the determination of national disaster status also has a political psychological effect, as well as calming the souls of people affected by the disaster.
Determination of national disaster status, said Busyro, will also raise awareness or a sense of humanity in civil society to help communities affected by disasters.
He believes that the determination of national disaster status will also give rise to various approaches to community social assistance through other means.
Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto had answered criticism from various parties who urged the establishment of a national disaster emergency status for floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra.
He said the situation was now under control.Prabowo ensured that the government would not remain silent and would continue to monitor the situation at the location.
“There are those who are screaming and want this to be declared a national disaster, we have mobilized it, this is 3 provinces out of 38 provinces. So the situation is under control, I will continue to monitor it,” said Prabowo at a plenary cabinet meeting, Jakarta, Monday (15/12).
