Bahlil confirmed that he would take firm action if it was proven that a mining company was violating the rules.
At the same time, Bahlil also opened his voice about whether gold mining in South Tapanuli also worsened flood and landslide disasters.
After inspecting the location, Bahlil said the gold mine had stopped operating temporarily to focus on helping disaster victims.
“Yesterday it didn’t continue, because now yesterday I asked them to help focus on helping them with tools to help our brothers and sisters who were affected by the disaster,” he said.
Flash floods and landslides hit a number of areas on the island of Sumatra.
BNPB reported that the number of victims who died in this disaster increased to 836 people as of Thursday (4/12) afternoon.
“I report that as of this afternoon the number of fatalities has increased to 836 people,” said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in a press conference.
In detail, in Aceh it was reported that there were 325 deaths, in North Sumatra 311 deaths were recorded and in West Sumatra there were 200 deaths.
Meanwhile, there were 170 missing victims in Aceh, 127 in North Sumatra and 221 in West Sumatra.
