President of the United States
Donald Trump
hired a new architect to renovate the White House ballroom after he fired the previous architect following a dispute.
According to senior White House officials, the previous architect, McCrery Architects and its CEO, James McCrery, clashed with Trump over the scope of the project, particularly the size of the ballroom.

But two White House officials denied McCrery was fired and said he remained involved in the project as a consultant.
Trump then hired a new architect from a Washington firm, Shalom Baranes Associates, which had designed the General Services Administration’s national headquarters.
“As we begin the development phase of the White House Ballroom, the Administration announced the talented Shalom Baranes has joined the team of experts to realize Trump’s vision of building the largest addition to the White House since the Oval Office, the White House Ballroom,” White House spokesman Davis Ingle said.

“Shalom is an accomplished architect whose work has shaped the architectural identity of the nation’s capital for decades and whose expertise will be of great benefit to the completion of this project,” he added.
In recent weeks, White House officials have complained that the project could potentially be slowed by tensions between McCrey and Trump over differences in the size of the project and the degree to which the design conforms to the classic White House style.
Initial reports of the project dispute appeared in the Washington Post, which based on four sources said the debate showed differences between Trump’s luxury style and general design standards.
Trump’s plans to build a grand ballroom have expanded since they were first announced, including the cost, which the administration said would be covered by private donors.
Several sources said the ballroom will be larger than originally planned, although it is not clear how much of an increase it will be.
The White House initially said the ballroom would be 90,000 square feet with a capacity of 650 seats, and cost up to US$200 million (around Rp. 3.2 trillion).
Trump then said in October the cost of the project would rise to US$300 million (around Rp. 4.8 trillion), in line with the larger size.
This project was criticized because Trump ignored objections from preservation groups and demolished the entire East Wing of the White House without permission from the federal building oversight commission.
The White House said it would submit plans for the ballroom to the National Capital Planning Commission, but stressed the agency had no authority over the decision to demolish the East Wing.
The Trump-appointed commission chairman, Will Scharf, said Thursday that he had received information from his White House colleagues that plans for the ballroom would be submitted to the agency this month.
