However, his party also gave a message to the congregation who intend to hold Christmas Mass at the Cathedral on Thursday (25/4).
Susyana suggested that people can carry out worship in their respective parishes.This can also be seen from the large number of people who come from outside the city.
“So we also actually recommend that if people can participate in their respective parishes, it will be more helpful,” said Susyana to journalists in the Cathedral Church Area, Jakarta, Wednesday evening.
Susyana said the Cathedral is open to anyone, but it only has a capacity of around 5,000 worshipers.
“Because the Cathedral is the mother church of the Archdiocese of Jakarta. Yes, anyone is open to attending Mass here. However, with existing limitations, we can only accommodate around 5,000,” he said.
At the first session of Christmas Eve Mass, Susyana said the committee had to remove reserve chairs because they had exceeded the available capacity.
“Earlier, a mass was held at 17.00 WIB, it was a very ‘flood’ mass, people flooded the cathedral,” he said.
“So the 5,000 seats that had been provided had to be supplemented with reserve seats,” continued Susyana.
Susyana said that although there were additional seats from last year, the capacity was still insufficient.
“Last year it was the same, we only held two masses. That was but with a seating capacity of 4,500. And that did seem insufficient. So this year we tried to maximize it again by adding 5,000 capacity. And it still seems insufficient,” he said.
The congregation’s anticipation was overwhelming
He said that the Cathedral Church was already anticipating registration for people who wanted to get a place in the church and Graha Pemuda on the 1st floor.
Meanwhile, other places have been prepared, he said, congregants just have to come without needing to register.This place without registration was then filled with congregation until it overflowed.
“So there are two types. For inside the church and then at Graha Pemuda on the 1st floor, registration is carried out. Because that is the term for the most sought after place. So to be fair, registration is carried out. And it is indeed full,” said Susyana.
“Then for other places in the tent, at Plaza Maria, or Graha Pemuda on the 4th floor, you can go directly without registration,” he continued.
