Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi
Amran Sulaiman
apologized for the public uproar regarding aid data
rice
for flood victims in Sumatra which went viral with a figure of IDR 60 thousand per kilogram (kg).
He emphasized that the error was purely a unit writing error, not a deviation or corruption as circulated on social media.
“This is the rice that was sent, I immediately called the secretary general in the middle of the night. It’s dangerous. It’s just wrong, ‘oh so, sir, the unit is wrong’. So what, it’s been conveyed to everyone. Tell them quickly that the unit is wrong, it’s the right one.
Clear yes, clear
yeah.”So I wrote it wrong, I’m sorry because I’m an ordinary human being,” said Amran at a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture Office, South Jakarta, Thursday (11/12).

Amran explained that the correct unit is a package containing 5 kg, not per kg, so the interpretation of the price of IDR 60 thousand per kg is incorrect. He emphasized that the aid sent actually exceeded initial data, including other logistics such as instant noodles and cooking oil.
According to him, this unit’s mistakes should not be dragged into accusations of corruption.
“In fact, what was written was 21 thousand kilograms, but actually 100 tons were sent because one package was 5 kilograms,” he said.
Amran said that all aid was collected from personal donations from officials and strategic partners of the Ministry of Agriculture, not from the state budget. The total value of donations collected reached IDR 75 billion, plus state assistance of IDR 1.2 trillion for disaster management.
He emphasized that he was ready to take full responsibility if violations were discovered.
“If there is corruption in the (Ministry of) Agriculture, I will make sure that I will be fired within 24 hours. If someone is playing around, we will report it to law enforcement as seriously as possible,” he stressed.
Amran also thanked the media and the public for correcting the data.He considers public criticism to be part of joint supervision.
“Thank you to the media. What was written was small, but what the company sent was more. The important thing is not to slander. I don’t want people’s trust to be lost,” he said.
The commotion started with the circulation of photos of disaster aid data on social media which interpreted the price of aid rice as Rp. 60 thousand per kg.
The Ministry of Agriculture previously explained that the volume figure of 21,874 in the initial data referred to the number of packages, each containing 5 kg of rice, not per kg.
Head of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Communications and Information Services Bureau, Moch Arief Cahyono, apologized for the unit’s lack of clarity and emphasized that all data had been corrected.
According to Arief, the government’s rice aid reached 1,200 tonnes worth IDR 16 billion, and all aid from partners was distributed in the form of goods, not purchased using the state budget.
The Ministry of Agriculture ensures that the aid distribution process is closely monitored through the Inspectorate General and is ready to be audited.
“Every penny of donation money will be accounted for and audited. The most important thing now is to ensure that aid actually reaches our brothers and sisters who need it in the field,” said Arief.
