A Muslim citizen of Lebanese descent in Australia, Ahmed Al Ahmed, said several words to his cousin, Jozay Alkanj, before taking action to seize the perpetrator’s rifle.

Alkanj admitted that he was enjoying morning coffee with Ahmed at a shop shortly before the shooting erupted.
The relaxed atmosphere turned tense and scary when Alkanj and Ahmed heard several gunshots and hysterical screams from people in the Bondi Beach area.
“He (Ahmed) was very scared (and said) ‘I will die,'” Alkanj was quoted as saying

“He said ‘I will die, please meet my family (and tell them) I will go down to save people’s lives,'” Alkanj said, repeating Ahmed’s words.
Alkanj later said Ahmed was shot in the upper left shoulder.
“(The situation) was very crazy. We went to the back of the car. We saw the people… shot very close to us,” said Alkanj.
Ahmed’s action of sneaking behind the car went unnoticed by the perpetrator, who seemed focused on shooting people.
At that time, Ahmed managed to ambush one of the shooters and snatch his rifle, then pushed the perpetrator until he fell.Ahmed then pointed a rifle at the perpetrator who ran away from him.
After the perpetrator was far enough away, around 15 meters, Ahmed placed the rifle on the side of a tree trunk.However, Ahmad was shot twice.
Alkanj and Ahmed’s other cousin, Mustapha, immediately rescued him and took him to St George Hospital.The father also went to the hospital to accompany Ahmed to undergo surgery for the gunshot wound.
Ahmed’s action in seizing the shooter’s firearm received praise from netizens who called him a hero.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised him as a brave example who was willing to risk his life to fight against the shooter.
United States President Donald Trump also praised Ahmed and wished him well after suffering a gunshot wound.
